Note To The Examiner

Dear Examiner, While completing this process of creating a cover page, contents page and double page spread I have massively improved my knowledge of the magazine and media industry. I have learnt continually during this process, which has enabled me to be able to create my final magazine. I have enjoyed all this process, finding every aspect to making a magazine interesting. I hope you enjoy reading through my work. Thankyou, Steph Colderick.

Evaluation Question 6-Draft

Photoshop Throughout created my magazine I have been able to massively develop my Photoshop skills and techniques. I have had previous experiences of using Photoshop during my Media GCSE coursework and have been able to use this as a starting point, such as how to create the page sizes, insert images and text ect… During this coursework I have learnt how to use many different features which made a big impact on improving my magazine and Photoshop knowledge. One of the key yet very simple feature that I used for the first time and heavily relied upon was the guidelines. Using the guidelines allowed me to align and gives my pages a bases to be set upon, this helped to make my magazine look a lot more professional and realistic. Also while producing my magazine I have learnt how to edit photos on Photoshop, such as the brightness and cropping. The brightness tool was key in creating my magazine as after first attempts at printing it was clear that my images needed brightening,...

Evaluation Question 5-Draft

My target audience is 16-24 year olds who are mainly female and are interested in the indie pop genre.   Cover Page I kept my cover page to simplistic and sleek design, as this was highly empathised by my target audience research. To try to achieve this sleek design, I only had three areas of text, with one being simply the name of my cover duo “Double ii”. The rest of the textual information is easily grouped into two sections, the general information under the masthead and then the tag lines of what is in the magazine. By grouping the information in this way I feel that the cover page looked non-hectic and not busy, which would attract my target audience and satisfy their needs. The text is mainly black fitting the monochrome colour theme that was wanted by my audience, I have used the colour of a muted shade of pink to highlight key information on the page and bring a pop of colour to the page. This pop of colour would appeal to my target audience as this was also a key...

Evaluation Question 4-Draft

Target Audience: My target audience is mainly females aged 16-24, who have a key interest in the indie and mainly indie pop genre. Due to being more interested in indie pop than completely indie my target audience will follow some mainstream trends however will also lean towards more unique fashion, style and music taste to create their own mix. This can involve mixing well known brands like Nike and Adidas with statement items from more individual and niche shops. My target audience will be steady gigs and festivals goers and will always have music as the backbone of their life, from listening to range of radio stations to always having headphones with them. Their playlists will be different from person to person, which fits in into the indie genre, however there will some clear definite artists including The 1975, The Bleachers, New Politics, Walk The Moon and The Mowgli’s. Throughout creating my magazine, I have tried and aimed towards features that would appeal and satisfy thi...

Improved Photos

Image
Learning from my draft feedback I need to re-take some of my photos particularity for the contents page. I agree with these feedback as I originally took some of my photos on my iPhone 5SE, which resulted in worse quality photos that did not look very professional. To improve from this I decided to re-take my images using the Nikon D3200 to re-take my photos. This allowed me to take better quality photos that helped to make my magazine look more professional and realistic. I also focussed more on the styling of my models for these photos, to ensure that I was attracting my target audience.

Double Page Spread Title Analysis

Image
As I found out from my draft feedback, I need to change the title of my heading for the double page spread; I need to change this because just having the band name "Double ii" as the title is not effective or fitting to the conventions of a professional magazine. In order to change this I have brainstormed ideas: Me, You & Double ii Me, Myself & Double ii An i for an i  ii's To Speak The Truth  More Than Meets The ii's  More To Double ii Than Meets The Eye  Let Double ii Flash Before Your Eyes  Double ii, Flashing Before Your Eyes  Inside Double ii  ii's Are The Mirror Of The Soul  A Look Into The Soul Of Double ii  To See All The Words Within Double ii  Double ii, Looking The World Straight In The Eye  Get Lost In Double ii  To brainstorm these ideas of headings I focussed on well known quotes and saying surrounding eyes as the double i "ii" sound within the band name link to this. I looked at ph...

Draft Feedback-Peers

To be able to improve my draft so that my final product looks professional, fits to magazine conventions and satisfies my audience I have asked members of my target audience to comment on my drafts. This feedback will show me what I need to keep including in my magazine and what I could consider changing. Front Cover: The font you have decided to do your title in is great, it really allows it to stand out in comparison to the rest of your text. I also love the way you have decided to dress your models, it really shows who your target audience is. However, I'm not sure about the prop you have used within your photo- this may be possibly due to the fact that it is green and doesn't really go with anything else within this page. Perhaps, you could try editing the colour of this prop on Photoshop. The font you decided to do the rest of your text in suits the style of your magazine- but I do believe that it is simply too large if you compared it to a real magazine. I also like how...

AFL Mark Scheme Evaluation Work

Magazine Reviews by Anonymous iusUJjrS on Scribd

Next Step

Having completed my drafts for the next two to two and half weeks I shall be improving on my draft to create my final magazine. To do this I shall be conducting audience feedback on my draft magazine in order to learn what satisfies my target audience and what will need changing. I shall also complete some evaluation and feedback work on other peoples drafts as this will help show me what I can also improve on.

Final Draft

To create my draft I used the ideas from flat plans and amended areas, to create an professional look.

Draft Stage Double Page Spread

Image
I have had to deviate from my flat plan more for this section of the magazine, due to the length I have for article. From my draft article I have had to shorted my article, however I am happy with the length as I feel this offers the right amount of information for an article. I have included both my quotes from my flat plan and have also used the same, planned colour scheme to create continuity across the magazine.

Draft Stages Contents Page 2

While creating my draft I have made different changes, both subtle and more evident. I have stuck to the base of my flat plan, however have made changes where I feel they are needed. I have added more contents to the contents page to create a more professional magazine look and I have altered and changed the layout of my photos during this. I have continued with my chosen colour scheme as I feel this suits my magazine. I have used advice from my teachers and my peers to create my draft plan, and plan to continue to use this advice to improve on from my draft.

Next Step

This week I plan to continue working on my drafts; now I have taken my images I am able to create my draft to higher standard. By having my photos I will also a get a better overview of how my magazine is beginning to look and if I will need to adapt either my photos or my magazine layout. My overall aim for this to have all my drafts completed, printed and ready for feedback.

Test Shots 2

Image
As well as taking photos of main band "Double ii" I have also taken photos of another model to be able to have some differentiation in the magazine. These photos will be used within my contents page. Below are the photos I have taken:

Test Shots

Image
Below are my test shots and photos that I plan to use for my draft magazine and final product. I ma happy with how these photos look, I am particularly pleased with how the outfits worked to make my participants look like a duo. The outfits and makeup were planned in advanced before the shoot, as was the idea of the use of a hula-hoop as a prop, this was worthwhile and definitely helped for the shoot. I wanted to see what the hula-hoop would look like as I needed to install some colour into my cover page, using a green hula-hoop would enable me to do this effectively. This will also look eye catching and attract the audiences attention, as well as fitting the audience research of having a pop of colour on the page.  I took an variety of shots as I wanted to have a lot of options including close ups and full body shots to use across the different pages of my magazine.
